We have just witnessed the largest and least anticipated crisis to hit the world in our lifetime. As the pandemic swept the globe with speed, the resulting impact on travel was catastrophic. Seemingly overnight, lockdowns and quarantine restrictions became a way of life. Airports sat eerily empty. Hotels were forced to adopt new policies and procedures as we embraced social distancing. We had not seen anything like this.
Despite all this, the hospitality industry and the revenue management function displayed unwavering resilience as we worked to adapt and make sense of what was happening. Long-term, commercial strategies made way for knee jerk responses to the ever changing political, economic, and social landscape. For all, it has brought challenges we could never have imagined.
As we emerge from the chaos and uncertainty that has defined COVID-19 19’s impact on the industry, never before has the requirement to unify, take stock, review and reflect on revenue management been so important.
